Children rest their bodies on a cot with their favourite blanket and stuffie. Educators support children by rubbing their backs, holding their hands, or singing to them as they fall asleep, based on their daily needs.

How We Promote your Child’s Development:

  • Dartmouth Day Care Centre adheres to principles of equity. We believe all children have the capacity to succeed, regardless of their life circumstances and abilities, with appropriate support and nurturing relationships. We promote inclusion and diversity within each classroom, and invite families to share their culture, values, and beliefs with us to ensure all families are represented within our classroom.
  • Our classrooms are ever-changing spaces that are warm, and welcoming, and reflective of the interests of the children enrolled in our program. Materials are placed at children’s height to promote ease of access and child-led learning. The physical space is designed to allow children to freely move about the space and maintain sustained learning activities.
  • Educators are responsive to children’s thoughts and feelings, responding to their needs and supportively guiding them through transitions. We believe that respectful and trusting relationships between children and educators are the foundation to emotional development and life-long learning.
  • Educators observe children’s play and respond appropriately to their interests and abilities by providing new play opportunities that expand on their development and learning. This creates a serve and return dynamic that upholds a balance between child-led learning, as well as educator-supported learning.
